Philippines ReliefA key part of TELUS International’s global operations are based in the Philippines, in the city of Manila. Like everyone else around the world, we have been devastated by the news of Typhoon Haiyan, which caused unprecedented destruction in many parts of the Philippines island chain.

    TELUS International Team Response

Our team has reacted swiftly to provide early and ongoing support to those most directly affected by Typhoon Haiyan. On November 14 and 15, almost 200 of our team members participated in relief efforts in the wake of the historic storm. Working with the Philippines Red Cross and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), team members packed relief kits, carried sacks of rice and loaded supplies onto buses and trucks alongside the Philippines Army and Coast Guard.

Ongoing Relief Efforts and the 2013 TELUS Day of Giving Philippines

And this is just the beginning. Team members will continue to volunteer their time in the weeks and months ahead. And on December 7, our annual TELUS Day of Giving in the Philippines (view the 2012 TELUS Day of Giving video from the Philippines here) will be devoted to typhoon relief efforts.

TELUS Corporation is also undertaking several means of support for the affected region, including:

    – Donating $100,000 to the relief effort – $50,000 to the Red Cross and $50,000 to local relief agencies through our TELUS International Philippines Community Board.

    – Giving free home phone calls from British Columbia and Alberta to the Philippines through Nov. 30.

    – Making key news stations TFC (channel 2602) and CNN International (channel 827) free for Canadian subscribers for the next week.

    What You Can Do

For those inside and outside of the Philippines looking to do their part, here are a few ways you can provide support:

    – Donate to the Typhoon Haiyan Fund via the Canadian Red Cross:

    – Donate via the U.S. Red Cross:

    – Text REDCROSS or ROUGE to 30333 and $5 will be added to your next bill and donated to the Red Cross. The Canadian government has pledged to match all donations to the Canadian Red Cross for this tragedy, meaning your donation will double.

The entire TELUS team’s thoughts are with those affected by the storm in other regions of the Philippines during this challenging time. Together we can make a difference.
