1Under the motto “Give. Make it count.”, and a continuation of our commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), for Christmas, our team members in Romania and Bulgaria rolled up their sleeves to spread the Christmas spirit to those in need.

Fifty children, aged between 6 months to 16 years old, living in extreme poverty in the village of Stefanesti, near Bucharest, enjoyed a better Christmas holiday than ever before. Our team members from both the Bucharest and Craiova offices made sure each child had an amazing Christmas present. Sweets, toys, school supplies, clothes, shoes and various gifts – our team members took care of it all.

Twenty-nine gift bags of sweets were given to the children from the School 136 in Bucharest, the beneficiary of our TELUS Days of Giving in June 2015. We also held a drawing competition at the school and asked the children to make a drawing illustrating the Christmas spirit. All 29 kids were rewarded and the winner got a tablet.

For the Fundeni Institute of Oncology, the pediatric area where 30 children were hospitalized during the Christmas holidays, our team member donated 30 gifts (sweets, toys, books), to bring a bit of joy and lots of smiles on children’s faces.

This year, we tried to address the increasing interest of our team members to support various causes by giving them various opportunities to contribute.

We started in November with Holiday Heroes, the charity supporting socially disadvantaged people, deprived of food and shelter. Our team members accepted the calls on the hotline for registration of families in need. A total of 5,000 families registered to receive a holiday box with food for Christmas. Our team members also participated in the packaging and distribution of the Christmas boxes days before the holidays.

Then, in December, we opened the annual Christmas Atelier in Sofia and Plovdiv, where team members could stop by and make an original hand-made Christmas decoration. All decorations made at the Atelier were up for sale at the Christmas Bazaar organized by our team, but open to all people working at the European Trade Center, where our headquarters are located.

Our regular Bake Sale also took place at the Bazaar, while team members that did not have time to make decoration or bake something contributed books, DVDs, bracelets and other items, which were also up for sale. The children from Louis Braille School in Sofia, our TELUS Days of Giving beneficiary in Sofia, also made some amazing Christmas cards for the Bazaar. Anyone buying something could choose to contribute to any of the three causes supported this Christmas: “I want a baby” (520 leva donated), “4 paws” (310 leva donated), and “Caritas” foundation for elderly care (360 leva donated).

Our team members in Plovdiv visited the Safe House for Children at Risk, our TELUS Days of Giving beneficiary in Plovdiv in 2015, to put smiles on the children’s face by bringing Christmas decorations and decorated the House together with the kids.

With 2016 ahead of us, we are excited and eager to “give where we live” across the globe and want to say a big thank you to our team members for their commitment to our CSR initiatives.
